How safe is my child's account at quirion?

Safety means two things here: who owns the money and what happens in an insolvency.

Legally the assets belong to your child. The account is in your child's name and every payment in is a gift; until your child comes of age the legal guardians manage it as someone else's assets, separate from their own.

The account is held by Quirin Privatbank AG, which has a full banking licence and is supervised by BaFin. The funds invested in are ring-fenced assets, legally separate from the fund company's own assets. If the fund company, the bank or quirion became insolvent, the fund units would remain your child's. Cash on the settlement account is a deposit and is covered by the statutory deposit guarantee, up to €100,000 per customer.

None of this protects against market movements: the value of the investment can fall, and losses are possible.
