How does a children's account work?

A children's account is opened in the child's name — the assets legally belong to the child. Until the child comes of age, the legal guardians manage the account in a fiduciary capacity. At 18, it is automatically converted into an individual account.

At quirion, you open the children's account digitally. To do so, the following are required:

The child's birth certificate

Savings plan from €25/month or a one-off investment. Management fee: 0.48% p.a. The child has their own tax-free savings allowance of €1,000/year — capital gains up to this limit remain tax-free.

The children's account is excluded from new-client promotions.

How can quirion have an intelligent investment concept, when fund managers generally "can't beat the market"?

In truth, we don't claim to be cleverer than the other professionals. But it may sound paradoxical: this is precisely what makes our concept so intelligent. We don't waste your fees on expensive analysts and star fund managers, who so often turn out to be wrong with their assessments. On top of that: we rely on the breadth of the market rather than on a few stocks, and we are always fully invested. This lowers risks and delivers the full return of the market – which gives us a systematic edge over traditional fund managers. One final point: quirion focuses primarily on value and small-cap stocks and thereby taps into proven sources of return. Many highly paid fund managers use similar criteria for their stock selection – but charge a considerably higher fee for it.

What added value does the quirion investment solution offer me compared with a self-managed ETF portfolio?

If you're not familiar with ETFs and don't want to invest time in managing your wealth, quirion is exactly right for you. But even if you know your way around ETFs, the quirion investment solution offers you important advantages:

Fund selection. Even though ETFs "merely" track an index, there can be quite significant differences in the performance of products from different providers. The quirion investment team picks out the best products for you from this vast range. If you buy a poor product privately, the loss of return can already be higher than our fee.

Strategic risk management. We continuously review the composition of your portfolio for you and permanently ensure your desired risk level. For a private investor, the necessary monitoring and reallocations are only possible with a great deal of effort.

Scientific portfolio. With a do-it-yourself solution, you would as a rule rely on only a few ETFs. quirion, by contrast, invests in 13 different products and thereby in more than 8,000 shares and almost 2,000 bonds. Private investors cannot achieve such broad diversification. In addition, quirion places an emphasis on high-return value and small-cap stocks – these sources of return, too, usually elude private investors.

Costs. The quirion costs are in fact considerably lower still than you think. Because we cover custody fees and trading costs for you. As a rule, it therefore isn't worthwhile for you to replicate our portfolio yourself: the associated costs would probably exceed our fee.

Who decides what is bought or sold in my portfolio, and when?

With quirion, you entrust the management of your invested money to the quirion wealth managers, so that you have time for other things and don't have to concern yourself daily with new market developments and investment decisions.

The quirion team consists of experienced wealth managers, financial analysts and economists who work every day to ensure the success of the investment strategies on offer.

The team monitors the weighting of the individual holdings and their composition in your portfolio and adjusts these to current market conditions, so that your individual risk and return expectations are always maintained.

What does rebalancing mean? When is my portfolio updated?

Rebalancing means regularly resetting the portfolio to the originally agreed equity/bond ratio (the so-called target allocation). Price fluctuations cause this ratio to shift over time. If, for example, shares rise more strongly than bonds, the equity ratio automatically increases and with it the risk of the portfolio. Without regularly restoring the chosen target allocation (rebalancing), the portfolio would therefore drift away from the chosen risk level over time. The targeted return-risk ratio thus becomes (sometimes considerably) harder to achieve. At quirion, rebalancing is carried out automatically as part of the wealth management, at least once a year, and in the case of larger shifts several times a year as well (based on fixed rules). So you don't have to take care of it yourself -- quirion does that for you.
