Is Cash-Invest a good alternative to a call money account?

With Cash-Invest, you use an offering whose target return is close to the ECB deposit rate. This means the portfolio responds very promptly to general changes in the interest rate level. You are therefore not dependent on your bank's interest rate adjustments. The flexibility of the investment is comparable to a call money account, as the money market financial instruments in the Cash-Invest portfolio can be sold daily and are usually subject to very low volatility. However, Cash-Invest is not an interest-bearing demand deposit but an asset management strategy. While the objective is the same, the approach to achieving a targeted money market interest rate is fundamentally different.

More questions on Cash-Invest

Can I make losses with the Cash-Invest?

Losses cannot be ruled out. However, due to the usually very low price fluctuations of the ETFs held in the portfolio, they are very unlikely during periods of positive money market or ECB deposit interest rates. That said, the target return of the Cash-Invest can decline over time and can even turn negative if money market or ECB deposit interest rates fall below 0%.

How long is the target return valid?

The return of the financial instruments contained in the portfolio can change daily. However, these daily changes are usually very small. We update the target return figure once a month as well as after changes to the ECB key interest rates.

What return do I receive if I sell early?

The return is not fixed but depends on money market developments, i.e. on the development of the interest rate on very short-term fixed-income and variable-rate investments. The ECB deposit rate is a good benchmark here.

What does target return mean? Is it guaranteed, or can it also change in the future?

The target return is not guaranteed but changes over time. It depends on money market developments, i.e. on the development of the yields on very short-term fixed-income and variable-income investments. The target return results from the respective current average yield to maturity (yield relative to final maturity) of all financial instruments in the Cash-Invest portfolio. As at 6 October 2026, the target return was 2.72% p.a.

What is the difference from quirion's global portfolio?

The Cash-Invest portfolio contains a combination of various money market financial instruments (currently exclusively in the form of ETFs). Unlike quirion's global portfolio, for example, you are therefore not investing in equity and bond ETFs here. Money market financial instruments contain interest-bearing securities with a very short maturity – on average between 20 and 30 days across the Cash-Invest portfolio. Your investment therefore adjusts very quickly to the general short-term interest rate level and usually fluctuates only slightly.

What is the difference from ordinary interest-bearing accounts? Where is the difference from the Verrechnungskonto PLUS?

The Verrechnungskonto PLUS is an instant-access savings account, i.e. an account on which deposits/balances earn a variable rate of interest. Cash-Invest is a money market investment. It invests in a portfolio of money market financial instruments. Its return does not arise from account interest payments, but from the usually very low-volatility price performance of the financial instruments (currently exclusively ETFs) in your portfolio. Income distributions also contribute to the return.

What are money market financial instruments? Are there any examples?

These are very short-term interest-bearing investments, such as treasury notes, floating-rate bonds, or fixed-rate term deposits from the interbank market.
