Our Marketing Manager Elena Rörup makes sure our messages get noticed on social media channels. The challenge: smart investing may be highly relevant. But if we’re honest, it isn’t particularly exciting.
Elena is new to the finance sector. And something else is new: her circle of friends’ interest in financial knowledge. “Some of my friends immediately wanted to know whether I now had some kind of insider tips for investing,” says the 27-year-old. In a way, that is exactly part of her job description too: explaining, especially to younger people on social media, that when it comes to successful investing you should not rely on supposed “insider tips”. And that while “exciting” is a fitting criterion for hobbies, it doesn’t make investing any better.
Between economics and psychology
Elena studied business psychology at the International School of Management in Munich. She then completed her Master’s in Management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. The combination of economics and psychology captivated her. “I find it fascinating how people make decisions – whether shopping in the pedestrian zone or when investing,” Elena emphasises.
During her studies, investing wasn’t exactly among her favourite topics either: “Of course I knew it’s important to provide for the future, for retirement, for example. So I did inform myself now and then, here and there. I had someone explain to me on YouTube how an ETF works, for instance. But I never found it particularly exciting to dive into the details.”
Open to new things
Originally, Elena wanted to become a management consultant. While in Vienna she had already worked alongside her studies at the management consultancy borisgloger consulting. There, everything revolved around agile working methods and process optimisation. After her Master’s, it was also her first employer. At the time, though, she could hardly have imagined that she would one day work at an asset manager.
At the start of this year, Elena decided it was time for something new. Time for Berlin. Time for a different job. And she came across a job ad from quirion. They were looking for someone who shows initiative and brings their own ideas. She looked up quirion on Instagram and saw imagery from the campaign for the new brand identity that was running at the time. The fact that quirion wasn’t just looking for someone with character, initiative and expertise, but had plenty of character itself, won her over.
Today Elena is responsible for the brand presence on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn – for quirion and for its parent company, Quirin Privatbank. She plans the topics and works out sensible ways to bring them to life. In doing so, she always wants to get to the point as quickly and clearly as possible.
Investing conveniently and smartly
The range of content is broad. So are the target groups. quirion’s focus is above all on those who somehow sense that investing is a very sensible thing to do – but who don’t want to be dealing with it constantly. For them, digital asset management is ideal. “I belong to our core target group,” Elena notes. Surely one reason why she’s the ideal fit for the job.
“But in my age group in particular, there are also plenty of people for whom having their own securities account is completely natural,” says Elena. Investing, she says, is a trending topic. “Unfortunately, though, there are numerous misconceptions around this subject.” She wants to help break up entrenched patterns of thinking – such as the constant search for “hot tips”. Digital asset management helps you avoid investment mistakes.
You don’t have to know everything and take care of everything yourself. That frees you up for other things. Elena, for example, especially likes to use her free time for sport. She has a membership that lets her try out and combine all sorts of things: sometimes the gym, sometimes boxing, sometimes a salsa class. When she travels, she prefers to do so spontaneously and without much preparation. “If someone in my circle of friends says Peru or South Africa, I’m in before you know it.”
Elena settled quickly into the team at quirion and Quirin Privatbank. Developing new ideas, thinking differently, delivering fresh impulses: that’s what motivates her, and she gets the chance to do it every day. “For me, it has once again paid off to embrace something new.”
