As Business Manager, Jonas Stuiber keeps all the threads together on our AI projects. He has been working on the use of artificial intelligence in wealth advisory for many years now. And AI is a constant companion for Stuiber not only at work.
Artificial intelligence as a helper in every situation in life: for some people that still sounds like a distant dream. For Jonas Stuiber, it has long been part of everyday life. For instance, when he is teaching himself Spanish on the side, purely for private purposes. He uses ChatGPT as a "sparring partner". He has the chatbot quiz him on vocabulary while driving.
Stuiber is responsible for AI projects at quirion and at Quirin Privatbank, and keeps all the threads together on them. As Business Manager, he mediates between the parties involved from various areas. On the one hand, he is in constant exchange with our CEO Martin Daut and helps refine AI strategies. On the other, he works to break things down into manageable work steps for our software experts to implement.
Between finance and technology
That he does this job at a bank is no coincidence. Stuiber came to the topic of investing early on, namely through a stock-market game during his school days. "I was so fascinated by it that I began a school internship at an online broker straight afterwards," says the 28-year-old. The world of investing — that was where he saw his future. That is why he started an apprenticeship as a bank clerk in 2015. "Back then I wanted to become a wealth adviser."
During that time, he got to know many other trainees, some of them from software development. They exchanged notes about their everyday working lives. "My colleagues showed me how to write small programs for routine tasks to make the job easier," Stuiber recounts. "I found that extremely exciting." And so a special interest in technology was added to the mix.
A manager noticed this and asked whether he would like to work on a new project. It was about developing an AI chatbot for wealth advisory. That was in 2018. He has been captivated by the topic ever since. Stuiber also stayed on the ball during a subsequent business degree at the CBS International Business School in Potsdam. The topic of his thesis: the impact of generative AI on robo-advisors.
More than just a project: quirion.Ai
From March 2022 to May 2024, Stuiber was already part of our team as a working student. He has been working with us full-time since June 2024. His passion project: helping to launch quirion.Ai. The smart AI adviser, which went live in September 2024, was and is the first of its kind. "We initially developed quirion.Ai together with an external partner, we now handle it in-house, and we are building up our own team for further AI use cases," Stuiber explains.
quirion.Ai helps with all questions relating to investing and financial planning. Especially those who need support: "With quirion.Ai, we are addressing above all people who know little or nothing about investing," Stuiber emphasises. "Because they are all too often led onto the wrong track by the countless tips you can find on the web."
quirion.Ai does draw on content from the web too, but not unfiltered. "quirion.Ai contains our scientifically grounded expertise on investing," Stuiber explains. "In doing so, quirion.Ai manages to recognise the level of knowledge from the questions and to answer at the corresponding level." In the dialogue, quirion.Ai then keeps guiding those asking further along — always with an eye on what matters most, namely personal investment goals. "After all, investing is not an end in itself."
More efficiently to the goal
A chatbot like quirion.Ai: when Stuiber first started working with artificial intelligence, that would not even have been conceivable yet. "Current GPT models, on which quirion.Ai is based, recognise the intentions of those asking on their own. That reduces the development effort quite considerably."
Exploring the possibilities of artificial intelligence further is one of Stuiber's current tasks. For example, to improve internal processes. Stuiber loves to engage intensively with such topics. Also because he can contribute his ideas time and again. "You are heard and encouraged — that is part of our corporate culture."
Discovering and trying out new things for himself: Stuiber finds that exciting not only professionally. It is something like his hobby. The other day, for example, he baked his first loaf of bread himself. Beforehand, he naturally asked the AI how best to pull it off. "With AI, a great many things can be tackled more easily and efficiently," Stuiber thinks. "And I believe you should make use of that possibility."
