Now investors have even more ways to set their own priorities within their quirion portfolios — with 13 new ETF portfolios focused on selected future themes.
The automotive sector is in upheaval. While vehicle sales in general are developing rather cautiously, the market for electric cars is unfolding very dynamically. Among carmakers, the electric drivetrain is now regarded more or less industry-wide as a „game changer.“ How quickly electric mobility advances depends, among other things, on the development of long-range batteries and the expansion of the infrastructure.
E-mobility, battery technology, infrastructure: those are three areas alone in which great economic hopes are placed. And they are three of a total of 13 future themes for which quirion has now assembled dedicated ETF portfolios. The range of investment themes spans „batteries“, „cybersecurity“ and semiconductor technology all the way to „cannabis“. „So investors now also have the opportunity to set their own individual priorities within their portfolios with us,“ explains Philipp Dobbert, Head of Asset Management.
The selection process
The themes were selected in a multi-stage process. Among other things, quirion's investment strategists took a closer look at which megatrends, in the assessment of experts, will most strongly shape the economy and society over the long term. „We also examined which investment themes are readily investable and which ETFs meet our high quality standards,“ Dobbert explains. Because on the one hand, the ETF portfolios should be supported as much as possible by economic developments. On the other, the risk-return profile has to be right.
quirion has for some time offered a megatrends portfolio, through which investors can invest in five future themes bundled together. „Whether you choose this portfolio or individual themes comes down to personal preference,“ Dobbert notes. „The more specifically you invest in a particular segment of the markets, the more convinced you should be of the trend's staying power.“
The global portfolio as the foundation
In principle, investing in individual themes takes a different approach than investing in quirion's global portfolios. „The global portfolio is a core investment that is entirely geared toward diversification,“ Dobbert underscores. „It deliberately reflects no opinion about trends.“ What is fundamental instead is the conviction that the global economy is set up for growth and that stock markets rise across the board over the long term.
When investing in specific future themes, this connection is not so compelling. Here investors are deliberately betting that a specific trend will continue or prevail. That also means the risks are higher. Even so: „Thanks to our selection and monitoring of the ETF portfolios, their risk-return profile is superior to that of individual stocks or single thematic products.“
Important: whether investing in the new ETF portfolios is right for you does not depend solely on your personal opinion about the individual themes — but also on your own risk-return profile. The thematic portfolios consist 100 percent of equity ETFs. „But not everyone can stomach the fluctuations of a portfolio that relies exclusively on the stock markets,“ Dobbert underscores. „We check this automatically during our application process and give investors a recommendation that suits their risk profile.“
