What does "token-based" mean?

At quirion, you receive digital securities in the form of subordinated token-based bonds. A token has a wide range of functionality. It can be understood as a digital right (asset) and is used like a share or a bond. In the case of the digital securities you can acquire through quirion, token-based bonds are to be understood as electronic securities in which the certificate is replaced by an entry in an electronic securities register. Unless otherwise stipulated by law, an electronic security has the same legal effect as a security issued by means of a certificate. For each bond issued, a token is issued by the issuer to the investor. The bonds are based, for example, on the Ethereum blockchain and represent the rights arising from the bond. As a standard token, an ERC-20 compatible standard of the Ethereum blockchain is used, for example. Securitisation of the token-based bond in an individual or global certificate is generally excluded. No certificate is deposited with a custodian bank.
