He blusters, he provokes, he polarises. Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for the US presidency, makes headlines almost daily with his combative intentions and views. And the whole world is wondering: what happens if the unpredictable billionaire with the distinctive blond quiff really is elected to the White House on 8 November?
"A Trump election victory could pose a risk to global markets," says Holger Schmieding, chief economist at Berenberg Bank, in an interview with Handelsblatt. "Nobody knows what he would actually do as president." His concerns extend as far as a trade war with China - the effects of which would weigh on markets worldwide.
Trump is also a staunch opponent of TTIP, the free trade agreement with Europe - and its future would be more uncertain than ever if the real estate mogul were elected. US economist Peter Morici made this equally clear when, in an interview with the British BBC, he described Trump's planned economic programme as "carnage".
Combining different sources of return
All of this sounds like potentially serious turbulence on the equity markets. In times like these, the self-appointed stock market prophets are never far away, advising investors to use supposedly crisis-proof tricks that allegedly even let you profit from plummeting prices.
Don't let yourself be swept up in this kind of mood-mongering and scaremongering! "An investment strategy that tries either to hedge against such a scenario or even to profit from it can achieve the desired results at best by chance," explains Philipp Dobbert, chief economist at quirin bank.
With the right investment strategy, there is in any case absolutely no reason to be infected by the rampant unease. Thanks to broad diversification and long-term objectives, our clients' investments are generally exposed to smaller fluctuations. To this end, quirion relies on a combination of different sources of return: ETFs, index funds and asset class funds from various markets.
"We recommend, especially in the face of uncertainty, a forecast-free, strategic and long-term approach to investing that delivers the fair market return," says Dobbert. With quirion, you stay relaxed - despite Trump.
