Who needs semiconductors?

Semiconductors are now built into almost every electronic device. Mobile phones, laptops, games consoles, microwaves and refrigerators all work with semiconductor elements such as integrated chips, diodes and transistors. But they are also used in embedded systems. Embedded systems are small computers that are part of a larger machine. They can control the device and enable user interaction. Embedded systems we frequently use include, for example, central heating systems, digital watches, GPS systems, fitness trackers, televisions and engine management systems in vehicles.
