Stiftung Warentest: quirion is the best robo

Stiftung Warentest has taken a close look at the offerings of 16 robo-advisors. The test winner is quirion – with the best overall rating and the quality verdict “very good.” How the testers rated us and what sets our digital wealth management apart.

Richard Müller is 45 years old, married, and together with his wife has a monthly net income of 5,000 euros. After deducting fixed expenses, 500 euros a month are left over to spend freely. By now, 55,000 euros have accumulated in Müller's call money account. He has experience with call money and fixed-term deposits, and some basic knowledge of other forms of investment. Now he is considering having 40,000 euros managed by a robo-advisor for ten years. And is wondering which robo he should invest the money with.

The right answer: best of all with quirion. That is not just an idle claim. Because “Richard Müller” is not a real person. He is a model investor used by Stiftung Warentest for a competitive comparison of a total of 16 digital wealth managers. In this comparison, we came out best with a grade average of 1.3 – with the quality verdict “very good,” which Stiftung Warentest awarded to only two robos.

The best balance of opportunities and risks

What ultimately tipped the scales for first place was that our portfolio showed the best balance of opportunities and risks over the past five years. But compared with others in the competition, we also stood out in many other categories: from low costs to very good information in the investment process.

“We are delighted with the result,” says our CEO Martin Daut. “Test wins like these are always welcome proof that our investment concept works.” Further proof of that: in the comparison of the sustainable offerings of the robos analyzed, quirion also came out on top. In this case, the low fees carried particular weight.

Award-winning time and again

As one of the first robo-advisors in Germany, quirion was a pioneer in digital wealth management back in 2013. Since then, we have won competitive comparisons time and again, including at Stiftung Warentest. Just recently, Börse Online, Euro, and Euro am Sonntag once again presented us with a “Goldener Bulle” and named us “Robo-Advisor of the Year” – for the third time in a row and the fourth time overall.

But that our offering strikes a chord is evident not only from awards like these. Above all, it shows in the fact that more and more people are entrusting their wealth to us. Our digital wealth management has grown every single year since it began: in 2017, we crossed the threshold of 100 million euros in assets under management. In October 2020 it was more than 500 million, in 2021 more than one billion. Today, we manage over three billion euros for more than 110,000 customers.

Returns for everyone

From the very beginning, we at quirion set ourselves the goal of democratizing investing and removing hurdles so that more and more people can take advantage of the return opportunities of the capital markets. At the core of our concept is a scientifically grounded strategy that avoids unnecessary risks. We put people's investment goals front and center.

On the way to “returns for everyone,” we have provided fresh impetus time and again with our innovations. In 2024, that included the launch of quirion.Ai. “To this day, our financial AI is unique in Germany,” Daut explains. It does not access content on the web indiscriminately, he says, but has been trained with the expertise of quirion and Quirin Privatbank. “quirion.Ai delivers concrete calculations for personal investment goals and explains in plain terms what makes sense when investing.”

“We want to keep standing out from the competition with our offerings in the future too,” Daut underlines. That also applies, for example, to the new retirement provision account, which is set to launch at the beginning of 2027. “We are still fine-tuning the details, but investors can rely on this: our products will be transparent, low-cost, and fully geared towards the investment goal.”
